PBS.org Redesign

PBS was unveiling a new brand, and I was tasked as the lead interactive designer for a full redesign of PBS.org. I presented each of my designs to every stakeholder needed for sign-off throughout every step of the process.

I lead visual design and stakeholder presentations for this project. I collaborated with Trisha Cruz, Design Director, Chris Koth, Director of UX Design, and Chris Bishop, Creative Director.

It was important to not just update these pages for the visual redesign, but to make all possible UX improvements.

Before starting any designs, I sketched ideas for page layouts and elements in my sketchbook and held brainstorm sessions with my team.

My sketchbook was packed full of ideas, which I worked through with my team almost every day during the design process.

The first challenge to tackle was the PBS.org navigation.

It was important to keep the navigation as simple and easy to use as possible, including all mega menus and the station localization experience.

The next section I worked on was the hero area.

The biggest challenge was to follow our new brand guidelines to keep our content as the focus while following stakeholder and station requirements.

From there, I continued to work alongside my team to rethink every aspect of the site.

The 3 top priority pages were Home, Show Detail, and Video Detail. As we were on a tight turnaround, these were the first pages to be designed, put into user testing, and presented to stakeholders.

I designed every page for desktop, mobile, and tablet breakpoints.

I worked through each page of the site individually, starting from scratch and building a new set of consistent components and styles to use throughout the site.

I established text, link, and buttons styles and video thumbnail patterns for PBS.org and beyond.

We mapped out every aspect of the site from low to high priority of implementation leading up to our MVP launch date.

I now work on continuous updates and improvements to PBS.org alongside my design team, product managers, developers, and stakeholders.
