PBS KIDS Birthday Experience

The PBS Innovation Team reached out to the Digital Design team to create design mockups to help them pitch a new idea, a PBS KIDS Birthday Experience with an Augmented Reality element.

I lead the visual design and stakeholder presentations for the Birthday Landing Page. I also lead design and UX feedback for Bully! Entertainment, who lead the creation of the Virtual Reality App.

I started with a competitive analysis to see how other companies, like Nickelodeon and Disney, celebrated birthdays.

Feeling inspired, I went straight to sketching. I laid out what each page of the web experience could look like.

This experience was designed for parents and caregivers to celebrate a kid’s birthday.

I was able to pressure test the new PBS KIDS Brand Color Palette for this project.

After nailing down the designs and color palette, I laid the Birthday page out at each breakpoint.

The landing page web experience generates a birthday card with a QR code, which pulls up the Virtual Experience app on the user's device.

We got approvals from the Wild Kratts team to test this product using their show. Once the prototype is built out for Wild Kratts, it will be used to pitch more PBS KIDS Producers to include their shows in the experience.

After several rounds of design, I landed on this design for the birthday card.

The QR code was designed with elements from Wild Kratts Creature Power Disks. I hope to create unique, branded cards for each show that is included in the Birthday experience.

The Birthday Experience will be live by the end of 2022.
